Today was unique, different in every imaginable way. It started before my alarm woke up, when Little Dude crept into my room, and asked, "Mommy, please can I snuggle with you?" Poor thing has a stuffy nose and couldn't sleep. So we snuggled until it was time to get up and head out to VBS. On our way to pick up some friends, he told me, "I brought I headache with me this morning. I wish I didn't." His comments are so endearing and so very precious.
Later today after swim lessons, he told me, "Mommy, I don't feel like 100%. Only about 1%." He really is feeling fairly miserable today. I think tomorrow will be a day of rest for him. He's just so sad and pitiful when he's sick. I hope getting him in bed early tonight will help him kick whatever it is he's got.
I managed to get to karate tonight, expecting to be tested for my next belt. This has to be the most drawn out karate testing I've ever known. I found out I was on the list over a month ago...and still haven't tested! I'm glad for the reprieve, and hope I can catch a bit of practice in the next week. Tonight was the first time in nearly two years that I've practiced self defense in class. I'm still a bit leery of involving my wrist in risky activity. In fact, I braced up before we got too far into class. It's a good reminder for me, and those around me...it's still tender, and if I break my wrist again, there's no guarantee it will be fixable. I think I'll exercise a bit of caution. Maybe someday, it will feel normal again and not twinge at the slightest provocation.
Ah, life. It's never dull!
Life moves fast around here. I am homeschooling our 4 children and we like to enjoy the world around us. So I invite you to join us as we travel the country, take field trips, explore nature and chat about life in general. It is indeed a lizard's life.

Yes, I did fall off the face of the earth.
Apparently having your spouse away for an extended amount of time, dealing with ER visits, doctor visits, legos up the nose, visiting friends and trying to get organized for school is more than a full time job.
So I fell off the face of the planet, and survived. I'm still here. I'm still considering those "finished bathroom" pictures and I'm still managing to survive. In case you're counting, we're in week 5 of the Lizard's travel. He comes home soon. I hope I remember to pick him up from the airport!
School officially starts next Monday, but I started yesterday. It kind of feels good to be teaching again, and I'm excited about what this school year will bring. I have classes scheduled, speech therapy scheduled, piano lessons (for the three oldest) are scheduled and karate continues to go full bore.
Speaking of karate, we've recently had a slew of advancements. Mighty Man received his first belt promotion to Yellow Belt. Little Miss advanced to green Belt as will the Lizard, when he returns from his worldly wanderings. And Monkey Boy and I both put on Orange Belt right before the other three promoted, so in a month, we've all advanced! Watch out world, here we come!
That's it for now...I'm back to the grindstone. I must get all of my paperwork and books in order if I'm to continue with school in the morning! Until I write again...

A New Belt!
Monkey Boy tested and put on a new belt last week! He's so proud of himself, and so are we!

Receiving his new belt from Sensei T.

Putting on his new belt.

Bowing to his class as a brand new orange belt! Hurray!

New muscles
That's right. I have new muscles. Or I have muscles I haven't used in a pathetically long time.
In case you didn't know, we do karate. Yes, me and the mouse in my pocket. No, silly. WE. Us. As a family, sort of. Two years ago my wonderful hubby started Karate for 2 with our daughter. Today was day one of Karate for 2 with our oldest boy and me. So, off we went, dressed in our most comfy, stretchy clothing. Prepared to kiai, kick, stretch, punch and block. But nobody warned me about that pesky horse stance. Ouchy mama!
Ok, so right here (points to inner thigh), here (points to shoulders) and here (points here) hurts. Well, right here. See? There and there it hurts. Fine. Just imagine that more places than I care to mention, hurt. And the hottub? Isn't an option right now. It won't be back in operation until Thursday. I guess I'll go find my friend, Icyhot. It's gotta be around here somewhere.
